Van Dieman’s Underwater was conceived as an exploration of the ocean’s beauty and danger. Sixteen inks inspired by coral reefs, tidal depths, marine life and the quiet violence beneath the surface. Fire Coral remains one of the most arresting expressions within the series.

Unlike true coral, Fire Coral is a hydrozoan, armed with potent nematocysts capable of delivering a burning sting. Its appearance is deceptive. Dark, brooding, and quietly luminous beneath the waterline.

This is an uncompromising dark red. Dense. Saturated. Intentional. Achieved through the use of a single specialised dye pushed to its structural limit, it remains one of the deepest and most vivid reds in the Van Dieman’s catalogue. On the page it settles into a rich, morose crimson with remarkable depth, pooling toward near-black in heavy application while maintaining clarity in finer strokes.
